Flat racks are the workhorse of out-of-gauge shipping. With no side walls and no roof, just a heavy-duty steel base and sturdy end walls, they take cargo that is too wide, too tall or too heavy for any enclosed container, loaded by crane from above or by forklift from the side.

Fixed or collapsible?Fixed-end flat racks are the standard choice for one-off and outbound heavy cargo. Collapsible flat racks have hinged ends that fold flat when empty, so units stack compactly and ship back at a fraction of the cost, the economical option if you run regular oversized routes in both directions.
